Parallel Parking (LMV and code EB)

Parallel parking consists of reversing into a parking bay to park the vehicle. It must be done in no more than 3 movements, and you must not bump any obstacles, including the kerb. You have 2 attempts. You will need to perform parallel parking to the left and to the right.

  3. Select reverse gear.
  4. Obtain clutch control (manual).
  5. Observe 360 degrees (Rear-view mirrors and blind spot if applicable).

  10. Counter-steer if necessary.
  11. Stop.

From the left: Begin by reversing slowly backwards. When you reach the first pole “check point” (generally when you see the first pole at rear-bumper level), begin turning the wheel all the way to the left. When you reach the second check point (generally when you see the 3rd pole in your left side mirror), you must counter-steer to the right. Usually truning the wheel twice is sufficient to straighten up. When you see the first front pole next to your left side mirror (the third check point), counter-steer the steering wheel all the way to the right. Reverse until you are comfortably in the middle of the bay, level with the curb. Make sure you are not touching the curb or any of the poles. Make sure to check with your driving instructor for their method.
