Speed control

You have to show you can travel at a speed appropriate to the circumstances. Avoid selecting a lower gear to assist or replace braking, in order to reduce the speed of the vehicle. If you drive too slowly for the circumstances, you will be penalised.

  1. Check rear-view mirrors.
  2. Adjust your speed (select appropriate gear) as required, in accordance with traffic pattern, gradient of the road, road surface, visibility and speed restriction.
  3. Accelerate, if necessary.
  4. Decelerate, if necessary.
  5. Brake, if necessary.
