Scoring Method
With certain manoeuvres, you can only lose the indicated number of points. For example, during the pre-trip inspection, if you fail to do the Adjust mirror part of the pre-trip inspection (2), you can only lose 2 points. Since that check and the pre-trip inspection only happens once, you only have one opportunity to lose points.
For trucks, if you fail to check a mirror or blind spot or both the yard test, you’ll only be penalised once for the observation fail.
With other manoeuvres, you can lose points multiple times. For example, if you make 3 lane changes without signalling (5), you can lose 15 points, 5 points per failure to signal.
With other manoeuvres, if you perform the wrong action, you will fail immediately. For example, hitting an obstacle.
You will pass if you do not exceed the maximum number of penalty points. The maximum number of penalty points for the yard test is 20. The maximum number of penalty points for the Road Test depends on the duration of the road test – the longer the road test, the higher the maximum number of penalty points. (For example, at 21 minutes, the maximum penalty points allowed are 105. At 45 minutes, the maximum penalty points allowed are 225.)
